SUBTOTAL (function number,ref1,ref2,...)

Use it on lists of data by inputting the formula or, from the menu, Data > Subtotals.

The first argument is the function SUBTOTAL is expected to perform. Here is a list of those functions.

Function number Function
1 AVERAGE
2 COUNT
3 COUNTA
4 MAX
5 MIN
6 PRODUCT
7 STDEV
8 STDEVP
9 SUM
10 VAR
11 VARP

Here are two examples of using the SUBTOTAL function.

Column A: using number 9 (SUM)

Column C: using number 4 (MAX)
